Indigenization policy
Indigenization is a strongΒ indicator of 91Ώμ»ξΑΦβs leadership role in regard to Indigenous adult education in British Columbia and beyond. Depicted as aΒ four corner-post model, Indigenization is reflective of the traditional longhouses of the Lekwungen and WΜ±SΓNEΔ peoples upon whose territories the college resides. Indigenization incorporates the values, principles, and teachings of Naβtsaβmaht β a Lekwungen term meaning βunity or working together as one.β The purpose of this policy is to articulate the commitment and vision of 91Ώμ»ξΑΦ in its ongoing work of Indigenization across and within all areas of the College.
Indigenization broadens the college's capacity to recognize, respect, acknowledge and integrate Indigenous worldviews by:
- making the institution more welcoming and relevant to Indigenous learners;
- preparing non-Indigenous students, graduates, and employees to better understand and co-exist with Indigenous peoples;
- demonstrating 91Ώμ»ξΑΦβs capacity for creativity, innovation, and imagination, and
- enhancing 91Ώμ»ξΑΦβs goal to be a college of life-changing learning.
